The Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha Foundation can today confirm details of its 2020 Gift of a Wish programme, offering support to a range of community causes in Leicestershire & Rutland.

Announced by Chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha on the anniversary of his late father’s birthday this month, the 2020 Gift of a Wish programme will be a continuation of a tradition that saw Khun Vichai give generously to community causes after becoming the Club’s Chairman in 2010 up to his tragic passing in 2018.

Considering the on-going coronavirus pandemic, Leicester City and the Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha Foundation have already commenced work in supporting Leicestershire’s health services through University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust and Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust, and supporting Age UK Rutland and Leicestershire.

Gift of a Wish 2020 will seek to complement that support with a series of grants for smaller organisations – both those supporting our community’s immediate coronavirus response, and those whose work will be significant in its future emergence from the crisis.

Susan Whelan, Leicester City Chief Executive and Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha Foundation Trustee, said: “The Foundation was formed to mobilise the power of football to deliver support for community causes most in need. At an extraordinary time where our community services are most stretched, the current circumstances have put a number of those valuable organisations at risk.

“Gift of a Wish 2020 aims to provide appropriate support to as many of those organisations as possible – invaluable resources that will both help our communities navigate through this crisis and help them to rebuild when we emerge from it.

“At a time when resource is available and our community’s need is greatest, we want to ensure grants are complemented by direct support from Leicester City personnel, where projects would benefit from the help of volunteers.

“We know from our first Gift of a Wish programme in 2019 that there are a huge number of worthy causes in our region, for whom a relatively modest financial boost can make a huge difference.

“This is an opportunity for causes of all sizes – some of whose visibility may not have afforded such an opportunity before – to work with the Club and the Foundation to deliver something special for our community.”
