According to ‘Bild’, the 2nd or the 9th May are the most likely dates for the Bundesliga to return to action although the latter looks the more likely if the coronavirus situation in the country does not worsen.

The German league could resume on 9th May behind closed doors after the COVID-19 stoppage, ‘Bild’ reports.

According to the report, this date is more likely than 2nd May, which has also been mentioned as a possible start dates amongst German league officials (DFL).

“At the moment, they are just plans which depend on many external factors,” a DFL spokesman told ‘Bild’.

It has been reported are thinking of resuming the season behind closed doors with only a couple of hundred people allowed in. These include the players, coaching staff, medics, ballboys, security staff, journalists and TV crew.

The Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 are officially suspended until at least 30th April.

The third tier, which is run by the German FA (DFB), is thinking of getting back underway on 16th May behind closed doors.

The DFB president, Fritz Keller, said this Thursday that the coronavirus pandemic will lead to a wave of bankruptcies across professional football in Germany.

Germany is one of the countries with the most amount of people infected. There have been 113,525 confirmed cases (5323 new ones in the last 24 hours) and 2,373 deaths, according to figures from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI).
